Temperature Blankets: What are they and what does mine look like?

Wynnafred Bonde about me patterns

The concept behind a temperature blanket is to record the temperatures in a certain location for a year (or more). This could be the high temps only, the average temps, or even the low and high temps. These can be done in a number of different ways, it really just depends on your preference. This year mine is a bee theme, with all my colors being yellows and oranges, and whites. Each "square" is a granny hexagon in a color coordinating with the high temps of the day!

I am pretty well caught up, though I am running out of one of the common colors for this time of year in my area. It is good to note that the temp range you pick should have a good range but if you live in a southern US climate you probably wouldn't need 0- 20 as your high temps seeing as I don't think it gets that cold. To be fair, I don't know if I will need them either since I haven't used them yet, but I would rather have them, since in Wisconsin it can get pretty cold come winter (it is barely spring at the moment). Temperature blanket made of yellow crocheted hexagons laying out on a hand-painted table.

This is an early image of my blanket, I believe during the first few weeks of January. I alternate my rows between 14 and 12 squares to give it more of a honeycomb effect. I am using Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4 which is a fingering weight yarn and a 3.75mm hook to make the granny hexagons. I think this makes a good weight and drape for the blanket and I will be more likely to gravitate towards grabbing it because of these factors.

I would like next year though to dye up my own batch of wool for another blanket, and I might knit up squares, though really the options are endless.
